PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – On this somber anniversary, many are turning a day of tragedy into a day of action, through volunteerism.
One hundred community organizations solicited for volunteers at this year’s Civic Engagement Expo on Independence Mall. And throughout the country, Americans participated in volunteer activities to mark the anniversary.
Todd Bernstein is President of Global Citizen. He encourages people to harness the emotions of 9-11 for a good cause.
“You know as we remember this day. It is an emotional day and what came out of September 11, 2001 was the compassion of the nation to respond and help others. I think we lost a little of that. But this is an opportunity to recommit.”
Some of the organizations on hand included Action AIDS, MANNA and the Police Athletic League.
