Phillies: What’s There To Worry About?
By Seth Everett
Phillies have taken 2 of 3 from the 1st place team in the NL West, the Arizona Diamondbacks.
While the rain drops were falling Thursday night, I started to wonder what, if any, should Phillies fans be worried about?
Cole Hamels is skipping his start due to mild inflammation of his shoulder. That comes from overuse, and how he responds, is the biggest key for this team between now and October.
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. told me he’s OK, and I certainly hope he is correct.
If you hear all about all of Placido Polanco’s injuries, you’d think he was Anakin Skywalker just before putting on the Darth Vader outfit. I asked Amaro if they need to go out and look for a 3rd baseman. He replied that his 3rd baseman will be just fine when September rolls around. Again, check the last paragraph and repeat it.
I’ve said this on the radio & on television. The Phillies are a virtual lock for the post-season but they are not anything close to a lock to win in the post-season. I just hope this team can stay the course as they will not play a contender at all until Labor Day. Can they just stay healthy until then?
I discuss this with Matt Leon on a KYW Newsradio 1060 Podcast this afternoon and will again on Sportsradio 610 WIP at 8:40 p.m. tonight.
