Reports Renew Speculation About Governor Christie Running For President

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Once again, speculation has heated up on the possibility of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie running for president.

A news service report said that Christie was going to enter the GOP race for President, and that focus groups -- a form of research -- were already ordered by the New Jersey Governor (see related story).

The report, according to key Republican sources, is partially correct. There have been numerous research projects, not by Christie, but by some Republican political action committees showing that he would be a powerful candidate.

There has also been public comment. Karl Rove, who opposes the candidacy of outspoken Texas Governor Rick Perry, has encouraged Christie to run.

Christie of course denies that he will run, but our sources in Trenton tell us he is talking to national party leaders. Although not committed to running, he has not completely ruled it out.
