Academy Of Natural Sciences Hosts Philly Geek Awards

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - On Friday evening, a museum hosts what could be the first of many Philadelphia Geek Awards.

If geek is what you seek, then Eric Smith, co-founder of Geekadelphia, is a go-to guy and he figured, let's honor the best Philly has to offer in new blogs, game design and comic art, among others.

"It's a black-tie sort of event, so everyone is getting dolled up in a very tongue in cheek sort of way."

It's Friday night at the Academy of Natural Sciences and for a you-decide-what's-fair donation guests will have run of the place. But why there?

"It was just a partnership that sort of blossomed as a result of their Mega-Bad Movie night," Smith says. "They screen like awful B-movies and they have scientists come on-stage and mock them in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 sort of way."

Prior to the ceremony, there's a reception mixing geeks and CH3CH2OH, which could be very interesting.

CH3CH2OH is the chemical formula for ethyl alcohol and that was a really geeky way to put it.
