GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) -- Delaware State Police have charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly injected his girlfriend with hair dye and ammonia.

Thirty-nine-year-old James W. Patterson of Millsboro has been charged with numerous other offenses and is being held on $132,000 cash bond.

Troopers say about 1 a.m. Tuesday, Patterson and his girlfriend were involved in an altercation when Patterson hit the woman in the face several times.

Police say he produced a hypodermic syringe filled with hair dye and ammonia and injected the substance into the woman's hand and neck.
