Just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean you take a break from exercising your mind. While relaxing on the beach, how about a good book to entertain you?
Rosene Compaine from Barnes & Noble has some great reads for the entire family.
For the Guys:
American Gods: It’s the 10th Anniversary Edition and it’s newly updated and expanded by the author. It’s called a sexy synthesis of mystery, satire, horror and poetic prose.
Carte Blanche: The latest installment in the adventures of James Bond. The story is set in a post 9/11 world and James Bond has been called up to participate in a special operation in Afghanistan and he has Carte Blanche to do what it takes to get the job done.
For the Children:
Adventures of Skippyjon Jones: Is about a Siamese cat named Skippy, who sees himself in a mirror and thinks he’s a Chihuahua. The adventures take off from there.
Throne of Fire: Is about two children, Carter and Sadie who are the offspring of a brilliant Egyptologist and they are on a world-wide search for the Book of Ra.
Hunger Games: Is a fast paced page turner that even adults are enjoying.
For the Women:
Silver Girl: Is set against a Nantucket Summer. It’s a suspenseful story of the power of friendship, love, and forgiveness.
Maine: Is the story of 3 generations of one family, albeit somewhat dysfunctional. They vacation to a summer house in Maine over the years. It’s both funny and sad, but well worth the read.
Additional Reads for Adults:
Save Me: By local favorite Lisa Scottoline, is about an explosion that rips through a school cafeteria. A mother is faced with saving the two girls who bully her daughter or her own child.
Now You See Here: A thriller with a female lead. The book has been called “A Hitcock blend of unquenchable drama and pleasure.”
