Delaware Law School Professor Suspended, Ordered To Undergo Psychological Evaluation

DOVER, Del. (AP) -- A white Widener University professor who claims the black dean of the law school is trying to oust him because of his conservative political views has been suspended without pay for at least a year and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation before he can return.

Widener dean Linda Ammons recommended that punishment for Larry Connell last week, even though a university panel cleared Connell of allegations of racial and sexual harassment made by two students.

University president James Harris III agreed with the punishment recommended by Ammons, who noted that the panel found that Connell had violated code prohibitions against "retaliation" for emailing other students to explain why Ammons had banned him from campus.

Widener's actions are being criticized in blog posts by professors at other law schools.
