It is the first Rembrandt exhibit in Philadelphia since 1932.
Museum Director Timothy Rub says Rembrandt changed the way Jesus was depicted.
“What Rembrandt did in the late 1640s is rethink this image of Christ entirely. And what makes this so interesting is that he humanizes Christ, in the process, working directly from live models.”
Rub says those from all walks of life can enjoy the exhibit.
“Rembrandt was very much engaged in that conversation across all faiths, in terms of thinking about the bible in different terms. Come one, come all it’s a great moment for Philadelphia.”
