Fallout From The Fight

By Seth Everett

I’ve been on the radio a lot in the last 24 hours since the bench-clearing brawl between the Giants and Phillies.

This morning on WIP, I interviewed one of my dearest friends. Former big leaguer Darryl Hamilton played 13 years for the Brewers, Giants, Rockies, Mets, and Rangers.

He also spent the last four years in the MLB offices handling on-field operations, specifically players fines & suspensions. While I put most of the blame on Giants catcher Eli Whiteside, Darryl tells me how MLB would look at Shane Victorino, and how he deserves a lion’s share of the blame.

Darryl and I host a show on iTunes called “Stayin’ Hot.” This interview was not to promote that show but more to give an honest MLB interpretation on what was a really ugly incident.

  1. Taco Grande says:

Darryl Hamilton is a big league clown. Knowing that this guy was employed by the Commissioner’s office dealing with suspensions and fines COMPLETELY undermines my confidence in MLB’s ability to police themselves.

  2. Z.B.Vogt says:

It seems obvious that the pitcher threw at Victorino, and then started towards him when he called him on it. Then not only the catcher Whiteside, but also third base men Sandabal got in his face, and started pushing him. What would you do? I’m not saying Victorino was not without some fault, but certainly not the brunt of it.
