PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With a slew of national articles about Philadelphia in the past few weeks, the city seems to be in the spotlight and it is all positive news about the city.
Meryl Levitz, with Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), says folks in other cities across the country seem to be taking notice of Philadelphia.
“Our dining scene, our neighborhood scene, our music scene, our art scene, all of these have been getting such great press in the New York Times, The New York Post, The L.A Times, Forbes.com, the Washington Post.” Levitz listed. “Nobody wants to be outdone in their coverage of what’s happening in Philly these days.”
“Despite the recession, Bart Blatstein has opened the Piazza, Stephen Starr opens a new restaurant every Tuesday, the city does a Race Street Pier, the Barnes Museum is coming, people have gone out and started new festivals like Beer Week,” Levitz added.
What’s the catalyst for all this sudden great press?
“Well of course, the crescendo was all of the press of two wonderful changes, well a few actually, with the Eagles and the Phillies with the (additions) of Pence and Asomugha.”
Levitz says the great happenings in the city come at a time when social media like Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter move information at lightning speed, so it does not take long for news about Philadelphia to get picked up by a reporter on the other side of the country.
