Delaware State Troopers Sickened By Fumes From Abandoned Vehicle

NEWARK, Del. (AP) -- Delaware State Police are investigating an incident in which two troopers became sick while investigating an abandoned vehicle at the Interstate 95 service plaza in Newark.

Police say the troopers were overcome by fumes emanating from the trunk of a car parked next to fuel pumps at a gas station Tuesday morning.

The troopers were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of what officials described as non-life threatening exposure to an unknown chemical.

A hazardous material team from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control was called to the scene, and the vehicle was later declared safe.
