Heat Wave Complacency Can Be Very Dangerous

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We've all been through it before, heard all the talk about staying safe during a heat wave, heard all the talk about dehydration. You know what to do.

The problem is, as we get further along into summer and the heatwaves are repeating just about every week, people tend to let their guard down and put themselves into a situation where they might not be as hydrated as they were during the first heat wave of the season.

Many may have been putting off yard work or exercise and feel enough is enough and that it's time to get back out there. Don't fall into the trap.

Remember, each and every time you're exposed to extreme heat, you have similar potential for problems. It's essential to take the same precautions now that you have been all along.

It certainly can be frustrating to watch you yard, or maybe your waistline, get a little sloppy, but use common sense and don't take any unnecessary risks.

It's also important to continue to check in on elderly relatives and neighbors and make certain that they are protected in a cool environment and that their medications are being taken in proper doses.
