Turn The Hose On Insects

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Icky aphids, clouds of lacebugs. What do you do when they attack your plants? I can't bring myself to spray insecticides, because when you kill bad bugs, you end up killing good bugs too - bugs that would eat the bad ones. Plus, birds eat insects and feed them to their babies, so I don't want to hurt birds with insecticide.

So, what can you do? Turn the hose on them for a start. Blasting the buggers off your plants and shrubs can shoot them clear across your yard - or far enough that it's hard for them to find their way back, and giving birds and other predators a chance to eat them while they're en route.

Hosing aphids away is quick, non-toxic, and a handy way since you can just point your hose at any affected shrub while you're out watering other plants anyway. And frankly, it's fun to spray away insects that want to destroy your shrubs with a surprising shot of water from your garden hose.
