Car Crashes Into Center City Burger King, Injuring 7

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Seven people were injured -- one critically -- after a car slammed into a crowded Burger King in Center City Philadelphia Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the accident happened about 2:30 p.m. at the Burger King on 8th Street just south of Market Street, only steps from a popular SEPTA subway entrance.

According to investigators, an elderly driver in his 80s crashed his car into the side of the restaurant, demolishing the building's brick exterior and sending customers running for safety.

Seven people were transported from the scene to area hospitals. One victim is in critical condition, police said.

Witnesses say the maroon Grand Marquis seemed to slam into the façade of the building without slowing down.  The ages of the victims were not immediately available.

As of Monday night no charges had been filed. The accident remained under police investigation.
