AARP Magazine Lists Harrisburg As A Top Spot To Retire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Pennsylvania's capital city has topped another quality-of-life list this time, for retirees.

AARP Magazine ranks Harrisburg as among the top ten most affordable places in the nation to retire. David Black, president of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber, says it's actually just the latest feather to be placed in Harrisburg's cap.

"It's actually not that surprising. Harrisburg has ranked very high on a number of lists. We were number five on Forbes' best places to live last year, number two on their best places to raise a family. And a lot of it was its affordability and its access to amenities," says Black.

And while the AARP Magazine's list ostensibly ranks affordability for retirees, its comments about Harrisburg are mostly about those amenities.

The magazine raves about Harrisburg's "gracious layout", "lovely" riverfront, "elegant capitol complex" and "well-maintained historic districts" along with its "plentiful festivals and events."
