PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Legendary DJ Jerry Blavat can add another title to his resume: author. His new book hits store shelves in the region today.
Usually, when you think of the Geator…
“It’s like a heatwave.”
You think of that. But now the 71 year old Blavat has a book penned–with the help of Steve Oskie–that takes a backward glance on his life, warts and all, called You Only Rock Once.
“My father was in jail many times. He was a book-maker. He was a Jewish guy. My mother was an Italian who ran away and married my father and I tell the story how that happened,” Blavat says.
Along with his intro into “the biz” through the original Bandstand, the Bob Horn version, a dice-game that led to his first radio gig, his legal entanglements, the Hollywood buddies of yore and most of all, his loyalties to his friends and his music.
