Man Shot By Police After Scuffle In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One man is under arrest and another is hospitalized after a police involved shooting in South Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. along the 2300 block of South Warnock Street, near the intersection of 10th and Ritner Streets.

Investigators are still gathering information, but police say officers were trying to arrest two men when they resisted and a fight broke out. One of the suspects allegedly punched an officer in the head.

Shots were fired and one of the suspects was hit at least twice. He was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in critical but stable condition.

There's no word yet why police were initially called to the scene.

At this point, there are no reports of serious injuries to police, though one officer was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
