Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Golfing During a Heat Wave

This week, another scorcher of a weekend is putting getaway golfing plans in limbo.  But Jay Lloyd has an idea to stay somewhat cooler, stay on the course, and save money, too.

A friend convinced me recently that the way to stay active on the golf course without worrying about the heat is to take advantage of the "hacker's happy hour."

That's not exactly what it's called, but you'll get the idea.

Some of the golf courses we often play drop the price dramatically at 4:00 in the afternoon, and again at 6:00.

If you race the sun you'll play all you can at Limerick Golf Club, for instance, for $25 any day of the week after 4pm, and just $20 after 6pm.

And 6pm is when temperatures are subsiding!  If an evening breeze comes up, so much the better.

Meanwhile, just down the road at Linfield National Golf Course, weekend rates drop to $25 after 4pm. On Monday evenings it's just $20 after 6pm.

So, check out your own local courses or those near your favorite getaway destinations for similar twilight savings and a cooler round during summer sizzlers.
