Police Adding Patrols In Society Hill Following Wave Of Attacks

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police are on extra patrols in Society Hill, where women have been the victims of a series of recent attacks.

Police say seven women in recent weeks have been grabbed from behind and choked before they were robbed of their purses or laptops. The attacks happened on side streets in the area of Fourth and Spruce in Society Hill.

Women who live in the area say they're avoiding those side streets for now.

"We're definitely not taking the alleys anymore: Philip or American Street. We're staying on Spruce and Third and the main streets."

And they say they're watching out for anyone out of the ordinary.

"I'm definitely a little bit nervous, but I haven't seen anything different going on in my normal walks."

None of the injuries were life-threatening, but police say some of the victims were choked until they were unconscious. Detectives are asking residents to report anyone who looks suspicious.
