One Dead After Trailer Detaches From Vehicle In Delaware

DELAWARE CITY, Del. (CBS) – One person is dead after a head-on collision on Friday night near Delaware City.

At around 10 p.m. on Friday, 66-year-old Allen Gurtler, of Delaware City, was driving his Dodge Ram truck northbound on River Road. Gurtler’s vehicle was towing an attached utility trailer loaded with lawn equipment, when the hitch separated from the truck and the utility trailer crossed into the southbound side of River Road.

The utility trailer then collided head-on with a Cadillac driven by Shati A. Miller, 26, also of Delaware City.

Miller was transported to Christiana Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

Were the back-up SAFETY chains attached? I seen a landscape trailer last week, without chains attached.
