Philadelphia To Host 'Slut Walk,' Sexual Assault Awareness Event

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The "Slut Walk" is coming to Philadelphia, August 6th.

The SlutWalks started around the world after a Toronto police officer told a group of young women that, to paraphrase, if they didn't dress like sluts, they wouldn't get sexually assaulted.

Hannah Altman, the executive organizer of SlutWalk Philadelphia, says things got even hotter when a local entertainment reporter went a step further. He later apologized.

"I think these walks are important because they get attention, they gain awareness about a serious issue and they start dialogue between people and nothing can change unless dialogue starts."

Altman says expect a stimulating march and rally with a lot of young women dressed exactly the way they want to, "We'll have some kind of sign-making party a week before the actual event. There'll be chants during the walk between Kahn Park and Dilworth Plaza."

The SlutWalk Philadelphia begins at 11 a.m. August 6th at Kahn Park at 11th and Pine and will end at Dilworth Plaza, with a rally including a number of speakers and possibly other auxiliary events.
