In 1972, it took a “lefty” to lift the last place Phils into a new era, and that lefty was Steve Carlton — a superstar athlete called eccentric and intense, and the subject of a new book, Drinking Coffee with a Fork: The Story of Steve Carlton and the ’72 Phillies. The book was co- written by Steve Bucci and his collaborator, Dave Brown.

its about time this story is told. i went to 8 games that year; they won all 8.we would go and buy tickets on the day he would pitch and they would delay the start of the game by 15 to 25 minutes to allow more fans to get into the park. They would sell 15000 to 25000 tickets on his pitching days, This is no lie.I hope that is in your book. He had a losing record 5 wins 6 loses before winning streak. 22 w 4 L REST OF SEASON. You are so right he was the best ever, over 1 season that was as good as any man could pitch. thanks 4 writing this! cant wait to buy it. TEE MCBRIDE I was 14 in 1972
