‘Horrible Bosses’ Can’t Knock Off ‘Transformers’

Transformers 3 Film

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Comedies featuring mean employers and talking animals registered significantly at the box office over the weekend, but couldn’t do much to slow down the runaway train that is the latest Transformers sequel.

The blockbuster, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, made it two first-place finishes in a row by taking in an estimated $47-million in its second weekend of release.

That put it in well out in front of the weekend’s two new and otherwise vital mainstream attractions.

The R-rated ensemble workplace comedy, Horrible Bosses, featuring Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, and Kevin Spacey, was the runner-up with an impressive $28-million.

And Zookeeper, the talking-animals comedy starring Kevin James, was third with a solid total of $21-million.

Industry totals were still nowhere close to those of a year ago, but on the horizon for next weekend: the final Harry Potter adventure. Lines are already forming.
