See A Doctor About Your Vision

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Most of us take our vision for granted. Of course many of us wear glasses and need these to help us get to twenty- twenty.

The most common causes of vision distortion are refractive errors, such as farsightedness and nearsightedness, which are types of blurry vision caused by irregularly shaped corneas. We know that people tend to be born with refractive errors or develop them through the aging process.

Far and away these are the most common causes of vision problems. Of course in rare cases - and I stress the word rare - vision distortion can also result from infection, inflammation, trauma, malignancy (cancer), and other abnormal processes including head injury, temporal arteritis, stroke, and certain medications.

From an overall health standpoint it makes sense to have your vision checked on a regular basis.
