4th Of July Party On The Parkway

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Fourth of July in Philadelphia wouldn't be complete without a variety of activities along the Ben Franklin Parkway.

There was a somewhat cloudy sky but that didn't put a dark cloud over the festivities.

For many, like Connie Plitt from Northeast Philadelphia, celebrating the Fourth on the parkway is a tradition. She and her family staked out their spot along early, complete with red, white and blue chairs along with a matching blanket and garland.

"We got our independence right here, so how can you not stay here and love it"

A seven block span along the parkway includes plenty to see, do and eat. Randy Black from Fire Kickin Chicken cooked enough food for a half million people.

"Grilled dogs, wingettes, big burgers and french fries."

The Roots rocked the Wawa Welcome America show as the house band, backing up hometown acts like DJ Jazzy Jeff and Boys II Men, in addition to the legendary Earth, Wind and Fire.

The entire event was capped with a spectacular fireworks show over the Philadelphia Art Museum.

The only dark cloud for some is returning to work Tuesday morning.
