Wawa Welcome America Festivities Kick Off In Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Welcome America festivities continue at Penn's Landing this weekend, complete with live bands, an ice cream eating fundraiser, and of course fireworks.

The temperatures were high, but so were moods and spirits amongst the thousands of people who headed to the waterfront for the holiday weekend festivities.

"Sitting in front of the river, it's very calm and peaceful, and I plan on watching the fireworks with my wife, my son and his girlfriend."

People lined up by the hundreds to take part in the "Joshua Kaan Fund Super Scooper All You Can Eat Ice Cream" fundraiser where you can find every one of your favorite flavors.

"You pay $7, you come into this tent, you choose from different places to go," said Jeff Kaan, the event's founder. "You can eat at Ben and Jerry's, you can eat Haagen Daaz, you can eat Breyers - all different ones."

Sweetening up the deal is the fact that all the proceeds from the ice cream fundraiser are donated to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
