Ricky, an outgoing 15-year-old, loves playing sports, dancing, and playing video games.
And he has an idea about the kind of family he might like.
“I want both a mom and a dad, other kids. Maybe some pets.”
What kind of pets would he like?
“A cat or a dog would be fine.”
Ricky says he might want to become a social worker when he grows up — something that resonates with his recruiter, Leah Guyton, who got a bit emotional talking about Ricky. She says it’s because she admires his resilience.
“I also admire the fact that, despite what he’s going through — and oftentimes children, and adults, they can’t see past now, what they’re going through — he can look all the way into the future and say, ‘I want to help someone.’ You know? And so I think that’s just awesome.”
