Busy Golf Week

Today brings round two of the PGA Professional National Championship at Hershey Country Club.  Philadelphia Cricket Club's Bill Sautter had the best start of the locals with a 69, four shots off the day's low number.   Among the other professionals from this region:  Spring Ford's Rich Steinmetz (pictured hitting a bunker shot on the 18th hole of the West Course yesterday) and Cleve Coldwater (Glenmaura National) shot 71... Merion's Mark Sheftic, Bala's Bill Walker  and John Allen (Linfield National) posted 72's.  You can find an updated leaderboard here...

Despite the amazing 60 posted by amateur Patrick Cantlay in the Travelers ... the big story of the weekend was on the Nationwide Tour, where double heart transplant recipient EriK Compton won for the first time and earned his PGA Tour card for 2012.   Here's a nice story about the accomplishment, even more impressive because it was done at high altitude in Mexico.

The big tour comes to Aronimink this week for the AT&T National hosted by Tiger Woods.  Tiger's instructor -- Sean Foley -- will emcee a Junior Clinic hosted by the Golf Association of Philadelphia tomorrow at Waynesborough CC.  Sean O'Hair and Hunter Mahan will provide a one-hour hitting exhibition starting at 10am, and about 300 kids are expected to attend.
