PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An 11 day itinerary of events in Philadelphia leading up to the 4th of July celebration kicks off this weekend.

City representative Melanie Johnson says the city’s Wawa Welcome America Independence Day activities begin this weekend.

“It starts Friday, June 24th. Taste of Philadelphia at Penns Landing with Gerald Veasley, our opening act, with some wonderful restaurants participating and a new stage on Front and Chestnut Street.”

The first of the city’s three fireworks displays also begin this weekend.

“One is Saturday, June 25th. The other one is July 2nd at Penns Landing again and the last one of course is on July 4th on the Parkway.”

And there’s so much more to see and do leading up to the holiday.

“All of it is free. You don’t pay for anything except your food and drink.”
