'Parrotheads' Flying Into Camden Waterfront Create Huge Traffic Jam

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - An apparent logistical mixup created a huge traffic jam throughout much of the waterfront area of downtown Camden today.

Parrotheads driving to the Jimmy Buffett concert at the Susquehanna Center found that the parking lots had not opened when expected at 11am.

The concert begins at the open-air venue at 8pm, but fans are known to show up hours ahead of time to tailgate.

Jim Wagner, sports information officer at Ursinus College, was in the backup heading to the Susquehanna Center.  He said he has been to Riversharks afternoon games on days when there has also been a concert but had never seen the traffic as backed up as it was today.

Wagner said traffic had not moved for more than 45 minutes as he sat there.

The Camden police department said it has received numerous calls about heavy traffic in the waterfront area.  More than 50 officers were dispatched to the area for traffic control.  The parking lot eventually opened at about 1:30pm.

There was no immediate word why the Susquehanna Center parking lot had not opened when expected.
