PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Summer begins this week and, with it, dreams of a vacation to remember.
Jeanenne Tornatore, senior travel editor at Orbitz, has three pieces of advice: don’t wait, get a package deal if you can, and paradoxically if you’re flexible “friend” your favorite travel sites online for that last minute must-go escape.
She says, while there have been price increases, some top destinations are bargains.
“Orlando’s our number one destination for summer travel. Average hotel rates in Orlando, they’re just running at $99 a night for summer, 12 percent more than last year, so that means they were really cheap in summer 2011. Las Vegas is our number two destination. Average hotel rates are up 7 percent, year over year, but they’re still just $89 a night on average,” said Tornatore.
Tornatore says Caribbean destinations and cruises are cheaper during this, their off-season.
