How To Stay In Shape When You're On The Road

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - I'm often asked by people who have to travel a great deal for the job what I suggest for the best way to avoid putting on those extra pounds and keeping your spirits up.

One of the best techniques is something you can do anywhere you might be whether home or away. You need to take time for yourself and you really only need about an hour.

If your hotel has a health club or fitness center, that would be a perfect location. If it doesn't have a fitness center take advantage of a courtyard or safe area where you can get away from your work.

All you need to do is relax and think about being somewhere pleasant -- that could be thinking you're at home or at some resort. Essentially take yourself away from where you have travelled.

The reason I mention the fitness center is that it is ideal to get a bit of exercise when you're doing this. But if you cannot find a place to exercise take some time to stretch and reduce some of the tension that you might have.

It seems simple but what we're talking about is giving yourself some time and it can be very important on the road.
