A Gardening Gift For Dad

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - He keeps saying he doesn't need anything! If you're short on cash or your dad doesn't want gifts, maybe you could do him a favor for Father's Day instead and help out in the yard.

You could offer to weed, Rake up leftover leaves and spring blossoms that dropped, dig a hole where he wants to put a tree - or plant some annuals for him. You could divide perennials that have outgrown their space or start a compost pile in a convenient spot. Raise a bed to make it easier for him to reach his vegetable plants but harder for the bunnies to. Remove ivy or other vines from tree trunks so they don't wind up smothering the canopy. Clean out the birdbath and refill the feeders.

If you're younger than your father, which many of us are, there are probably plenty of garden chores he'd consider it a gift to not have to do himself. And if you're dad's not around, as a tribute to him, you can probably find a neighbor who'd be happy for a helping hand too.
