Philadelphia Congresswoman Calls For Rep. Weiner To Resign

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Philadelphia-area congresswoman has become the first Democrat in Congress to call on Anthony Weiner to resign his House seat.

Allyson Schwartz, who represents Northeast Philadelphia and part of Montgomery County, tells POLITICO that Wiener should step down “in light of [his] offensive behavior online.”

Congresswoman Schwartz, who holds a leadership post in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, says “having the respect of your constituients is fundamental for a member of Congress.”

Weiner has been making calls to colleagues to apologize for sending raunchy tweets, texts, and photos to a number of women.

Tim Kaine, the former Democratic Party chief who is running for the Senate in Virginia, was the first major Democrat to call for him to step aside. He told a TV station that “lying publicly about something like this” is “unforgivable.”
