MANAYUNK, Pa. (CBS) – City and state police were out in force along the Manayunk Wall throughout the bike race to make one point clear: they wouldn’t tolerate rowdy parties or underage drinking.

It was a more subdued party atmosphere this year, many say, because of the crackdown on public drunkenness.

“The city cops have done a great job, they mingle well with the crowd, they’re friendly. You know, they keep everyone respectful, but they let everyone still have a good time. Just having the state troopers in here is completely unnecessary,” said one bike race attendee.

Many spectators/partygoers didn’t like the added city and state police presence.

“The of-age crowd is a little subdued. The people aren’t walking up and down the street with their plastic cups and people aren’t hanging over the fence carrying on and that takes a little bit out of it.”

But others liked the heavy city and state police presence.

“I understand that there’s been some rowdiness and underage drinking around here and some things have to be taken care of.”
