Burger Brawl In Philadelphia Is Not Your Typical School Fundraiser
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's a tasty school fundraiser coming up Saturday.
Many parents help their kids' school make extra money with anything from collecting supermarket receipts to bake sales.
But for restaurateur Rob Wasserman of Rouge and 500 Degrees it's the Burger Brawl Saturday afternoon in the school yard at Meredith Elementary School on 5th Street near South.
He says for $60, you get to taste and vote on the burgers concocted by 18 chefs and you can expect surprises.
"In the beginning, everybody seemed a little hesitant about getting involved in this and now, by tweets and by emails, everybody is egging each other on as to who will have the best burger, meaning the chefs are doing this, and they are keeping it pretty tight to the chest about what they'll be showcasing at the event," Wasserman said.
Wasserman's restaurants will also have burger there, but not as part of the competition. Celebrity judges will provide one rating, patrons another, and there's a third online on a local website.
