Police Probe Home Invasion, Attempted Rape In Strawberry Mansion

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police have cleared one man and they are questioning another in connection to an early morning home invasion and attempted rape.

The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. inside a home in the 3000 block of Fontain Street in the city's Strawberry Mansion section.

According to investigators, the suspect(s) entered the victim's home through an open window on the lower level of the home.

The suspect assaulted and then attempted to rape the victim during the attack. The suspect had a knife and cut the victim on her hand during the struggle.

The victim was able to fight off her attacker and the suspect fled the scene.

Investigators initially brought two men to the Special Victims Unit in Kensington early Thursday morning. One man was later released while a second remains in police custody.

So far, no charges have been filed.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and later released.

The incident remains under police investigation.
