Former Official At Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Charged With Embezzlement
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A former top ranking official at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is being charged with embezzling $1.7 million over the course of 12 years.
The US attorney's office says a three-count information charges Roosevelt Hairston Jr. with mail fraud, money laundering, and filing false tax returns.
"Information alleges that Hairston owned a large house outside of Philadelphia, he purchased real estate, he owned a yacht, a captain tasked with maintaining the yacht, he owned various high-end automobiles as well as many other luxury items," says assistant US attorney Richard Zack.
Zack says that Hairston set up shell companies to steal from Children's Hospital, using dozens of false invoices, and says the scheme went on for such a long time because Hairston had a position of trust and authority.
