Third Day of Heat Wave Keeps Delaware Valley Sweltering

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Even three weeks before the start of summer, it sure feels like summer in Philadelphia!

Some folks were out enjoying the summer-like weather today in Washington Square, near 6th and Walnut Streets.

"I love the summer, so I enjoy this type of weather," said one man.

Another man who was sunbathing in the park, said it felt good to be basking in the park:

"It's about time!  I need to get rid of the winter paleness."

Others tried to hide from the heat:

"I think it's just abysmal," said one woman, "and I want to go home and sit in the air conditioning."

Another woman, who works in a nearby preschool, says teachers brought the kids out to Washington Square to play.  How do they keep them cool?

"Well, we keep them in the shade, we bring out plenty of ice-cold water, and the spray bottles are cold -- it keeps them cool."

(Kuznits:)  "And they want to be sprayed?"

(Teacher:)  "Yes, they love to be sprayed -- yes they do."

She says the highlight for the kids was watching the fountain suddenly come on while they were standing there.

Story continues below...

"They are excited about the water coming on!  They probably wish they can jump into the fountain and go for a swim (laughs)."
