Annual Philadelphia Writers' Conference Begins June 3

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The holiday weekend is over. Time to get back to work and if you're a writer, or want to be, a big chance is coming up.

The annual Philadelphia Writers' Conference is Friday, June 3rd, through Sunday, June 5th, at the Holiday Inn at 4th and Arch Streets in Old City.

Event spokesman Larry Atkins says there are workshops on the craft of writing and you can really take a lot out of what is offered.

"We have our certain core courses and workshops that we give every year.  Such as non-fiction books and short stories and poetry and  every year we alternate different types of topics, so some years we offer screenwriting, web-writing, writing for the internet, flash writing."

The conference is also not only a place where writers can meet and network with other writers but with those who might help them become published writers.

"As always, we're having people be able to meet with editors and agents and pitch their book ideas."

The keynote speaker will be Nelson Johnson, author of Boardwalk Empire. The book is the basis of the popular HBO series.
