New Study Shows Most Dangerous Places To Walk In The Country

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A newly released study looks at the most dangerous parts of America in which to walk.

The region, as defined as the city, suburbs, South Jersey and down to Wilmington, ranked 39th out of 52 urban metros evaluated by Transportation for America, a consortium of groups looking to improve mass transit and road infrastructure. David Goldberg is a spokesman.

"A place like Philadelphia has had a lot of folks walking and taking public transportation for a long time, and you tend to provide the kind of infrastructure for that."

But not in growing suburbs, and that's a problem. The survey was based on highway fatalities over the last decade involving pedestrians. The group hopes to promote a national move toward putting crosswalks and pavements along many busy highways that don't have them now.
The safest roads to walk on are in Boston; the most dangerous are in Orlando.
