CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) - There is still considerable buzz about the goal that Carlos Ruiz scored this past Saturday that helped give the Philadelphia Union a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire.
The tally was an all-timer, but lost in the excitement of that highlight was the first professional goal for Michael Farfan.
The 23rd overall selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Farfan was making his second start in the win over the Fire, and his goal opened the scoring in the 64th minute.
“Kyle (Nakazawa) was on the ball, a free kick to the left side, and I was kind of holding for the team a little bit further back,” Farfan recalls. “And he played it across the field to me so I could hit it, and I just hit it and it deflected off one of their players and the goalie couldn’t get there in time. He was already off balance.”
Farfan says finding the net was very cool:
“Thinking about scoring the goal and scoring the goal are two different things. To experience this firsthand is amazing.”

The North Carolina product hopes to build on that goal this coming Saturday when the Union visit Toronto FC.
“We just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing at home and take it with us on the away games,” Farfan told KYW Newsradio.
The Philadelphia Union are 5-3-2 so far this season. Their 17 points has them one in front of second-place New York.
