PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Crews returned today to the scene of a possible drowning along the Delaware River, where a teenager went under last evening.

Officials say that about 6 o’clock last night at Pennypack Park in Northeast Philadelphia, 18-year-old Jennifer Torres fell into the river.  A young man jumped in to save her but he began struggling and went under.

That’s when the young man’s cousin, Joshua Garner, jumped in.

“But him and me kept… both were going underneath,” says Garner.  “We both were going under.  And then he ended up letting go.  Then I went under to look for him but I couldn’t see him.”

Other people nearby came to the rescue of Torres and Garner, but the other teen never surfaced.

Rescue crews searched until 10 o’clock last night, then the operation went from rescue to recovery until they knocked off for the night.

The recovery effort resumed around 8:00 this morning.
