CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - The La Salle Explorers didn’t have to work as hard as the Phillies did last night (see related story), but they still needed to go extras to win their first game in the Atlantic 10 Tournament at Campbell’s Field in Camden.
La Salle (#6) beat Dayton (#3), 6-5, in 13 innings yesterday, scoring the winning run on an error.
So, La Salle advances in the winner’s bracket, where they will take on #2 seed Rhode Island this afternoon.
La Salle actually led yesterday’s game 5-1 at one point, but Dayton fought back to tie the game with one run in the 4th and three in the 7th.
The Explorers’ bullpen came up huge in this one, as Kevin Christy (in photo above) and Pat Christensen combined for 6⅓ one-hit, shutout innings. Christensen picked up the win.
La Salle and Rhode Island are set to play today’s game at 3:30pm.
