PHLADELPHIA (CBS) – Tips from the public helped police to identify the man who stole a disability check from a disabled Philadelphia marine veteran.

Just days before Christmas, police say Jonathan Gerance used a counterfeit driver’s license to open a bank account in the Sergeant’s name at the Bank of America on Street Road in Bensalem, and deposited the disability check worth $44,000. (see related story)

Over the course of six days, police say Gerance withdrew $22,000 from the account.

He is currently being held in Camden County jail, he’s also wanted for identity theft in Willistown Township, Chester County.

I’m so glad he was identified and is in custody. He stole from one of the very people who helped give him the FREEDOM to live as a free American. Shame on him.
