Phillies Place Ruiz On Disabled List

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- The Philadelphia Phillies placed catcher Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday because of inflammation in his back.

The move is retroactive to April 28.

Ruiz is hitting .226 with two homers and nine RBIs.

Last year, he led the Phillies with a .302 average and .400 on-base percentage.

To replace Ruiz on the 25-man roster, the Phillies are expected to activate pitcher Joe Blanton from the disabled list before Monday night's game in Florida.

Blanton is 0-1 with a 5.92 ERA this season.
