PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The money might not have been dirty but a man trying to get more than $10,000 to Jamaica decided to use soap anyway.
Customs officials say they seized the money from a man trying to fly from Philadelphia to Jamaica on Saturday after discovering cash stuffed into boxes of Irish Spring soap.
Customs and Border Protection officials say the man told officers he had $3,000 on him but a search revealed a total of $11,343 concealed on his person and in envelopes and soap boxes in his luggage. International travelers have to declare amounts exceeding $10,000.
Spokesman Steve Sapp says there’s no indication the man had a nefarious purpose but his name has been entered into their system.
Officials did not release the man’s name.
