Pair Of Dogs Attacked In Trenton Doing 'Much Better'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When we first met Willie and Kate on Friday, the gash wounds on their heads were still fresh.

Kate's skull was literally cracked open.

The of dogs, named after the royal couple, were found on the date of the royal wedding. Their wounds appeared as though someone split their heads open with an ax and left them to die near train tracks in Trenton. (see related story)

Now they are doing much better.

"They've been through enough, they're seen enough and they're really lucky to be alive," said Rescue Ink member 'Alley Cat.'

That's why the guys from Rescue Ink took over the case. Wearing tattoos like "Fear no man. Protect all beasts," and "Army for the Animals." They've been featured on Animal Planet and they are certainly not your mother's rescue group.

"Seeing an act like this breaks your heart and you have to stop these people. The time to stop, it is now," said Rescue Ink member Big Mike.

"We get these animals out of horrendous, horrendous situations," Rescue Ink founder Joe Panz said.

Rescue Ink, based in Queens, New York, is taking Willie and Kate from the Cares Animal Hospital in Langhorne, Bucks County to their 25 acre dog sanctuary in upstate New York.

"We give them 24 hour care with humans. We have a pack of dogs up there waiting to accept them back into the pack, and its all about bringing them back into that pack mentality," said Eric B of Rescue Ink.

But the guys at Rescue Ink aren't just about rehabbing the dogs so they can be adopted. They also want to track down the person who hurt these dogs, and their investigation has taken them to some of the roughest streets in Trenton.

"We do whatever is necessary within the means of the law. That is what our lawyer tells us to say whenever we start one of these interviews," Panz said.

"People say we're big guys, tattooed guys, we don't go into any situation looking for trouble, but we're definitely ready for it." Big Mike said.

The guys say anyone who wants to follow Willie and Kate's progress can do so on Rescue Ink's Facebook page.
