Philadelphia Police Officer Sidelined After DUI Arrest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Philadelphia police officer has been arrested and taken off the street after authorities say he was driving drunk and crashed into another car.

It happened early Sunday along the 4200 block of North American Street in Feltonville.

Cops say Officer Peter Marrero, who was off-duty at the time, was given a breathalyzer test and blew over the legal limit.

The 46-year-old is a 21-year veteran of the department, and is currently assigned to the 25th District.

Marrero is charged with driving under the influence.

First of all guys he was off duty.. he was not drinking while on uniform! Second of all those who never made a mistake please DO throw the 1st stone!!!!!!!!! .. We cannot judge his work in the force because of a mistake he did while OFF duty. He is a great cop and i am first say he saved many lives and also put his life on the line many times..!!!!!!!!! of course the media DONT say that !!!!!!!!!!!!! He really is a great man ..To me personally all he needs is some help on how to handle much stress..and instead of saying negative comments why dont we just stop judging and start caring and helping our fellow officers they are human too and are not perfect! Officer Marrero is a good man..HOPEFULLY WITH HELP HE CAN OVERCOME THIS INCIDENT & THE PEOPLE WHO HE ACCIDENTALLY HIT! BLESS THEM ALL . PS.. I WISH THAT INSTEAD OF STRESSING THE POLICE OFFICERS THE CITY FOCUS ON HOW TO HELP THEM WITH IT.programs are out there.. they should assigned officers twice a month or so ..

Its a large police force and of course there will be mebers who fall short,,, if it is a weekly occurence this probably based soley on the amount of officers on the force.

And so it continues…. week after week, another Philly Cop commits a crime. It is unreal! For the past 6 months, every week another Philly Cop is proven to be a criminal. What a terrible, terrible law enforcement city. Ed Rendell, Michael Nutter, John Street, this is your legacy, hope you’re proud.
