CBS 3, KYW Newsradio, CBSPhilly.Com To Simulcast Live Coverage Of Beatification Of Pope John Paul II

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- CBS sister stations CBS 3 and KYW Newsradio 1060 will team up to broadcast live coverage of the Mass of Beatification of Pope John Paul II on Sunday, May 1, 4 to 6 a.m. The Mass, which is being held in St. Peter's Square in Rome, will be celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI.

The event will also be streamed live on the stations' website, CBSPhilly.com. The coverage will be anchored in CBS 3's Philadelphia studio by CBS 3's Pat Ciarrocchi of Eyewitness News and Harry Donahue of KYW Newsradio. Eyewitness News' Sunday morning newscast will follow with extended coverage of the event that morning from 6 to 9 a.m.

Cardinal John Patrick Foley, who recently retired from his post as grand master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in Rome, will provide commentary in studio as well. Cardinal Foley is the former editor of The Catholic Standard and Times and a former director of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. He also provided the international English commentary for Midnight Mass at the Vatican and many other Papal events there.

Pope John Paul II, born Karol Józef Wojtyła in Poland in 1920, was elected Pope by the College of Cardinals in 1978 and served until his death in 2005. Beatification is a step towards being canonized a saint. A person who is beatified is given the title "Blessed."
